In the scrapbooking world it is common place to do a Book of Me where we record many aspects of who we are, our thoughts, fears, what makes us laugh, favourite songs and anything else that just makes us who we are. As i've been out of that scene for a while now I have to admit that my personal journaling has taken on different angles too, much more outlining my thoughts and personality traits and more on the world around me, my children and the progress of my spiritual self. However, recently I have had that nagging feeling that I need to restart this book to show how my own inner self is going as I travel through various stages in my life and find new things to be passion about. So, as I have two regular spots on Modern Molly Mormon now {as well as any other articles I chime in with} one of them is going to be a regular monthly inspiration to encourage any reader to use their chosen method to do their own Book of Me. The first part of this journey is alphabets, the simple stuff at first {given that I am not all too familiar with readers preferences at this point} and to kick it off their first challenge, which can be found here, was based on the first letter of their name where they were to gather as many words as they can with that letter to describe themselves in as many ways as they can, then record it. Now not everyone is into scrapbooking so this isnt strictly only valid to scrappers, so i've challenged the readers to find their own way of taking my quest and anyone that leads me to where they are playing alone will be linked to this blog here :)
Last week, a week after my post over on MMM I received a heartwarming email from a lady who liked my article and decided that it was exactly what she wanted to do herself. She too felt it was important for mum's story to be told to and decided to use her blog as her platform. She very kindly blogged about my challenge and encourages all of her readers to join us. Because I think Patti is just so awesome I am going to feature her blog here, especially the post she wrote and I hope you hop on over there to show her some love by leaving her a comment! This was Patti's post:
Book of me ~D~
One of my favorite blogs is Modern Molly Mormon. Madness Molly started a new monthly feature called "Book of You".
In this feature, she is going to give her readers a letter of the
alphabet each month. We need to use that letter to come up with words
that relate to us and to write about those words whether it be in
scrapbook form, journal, or of course a blog. In the end we will have
the whole alphabet. The point of this exercise is to one day pass this
on to our children and let them get to know us as more than "mom".
I
really liked the idea of doing this and thought that it would be great
for the kids to see that not only am I "mom" but I also have interests,
fears, likes, dislikes, and other things that make me who I am. I want
them to know the real me that I may not always be able to show them.
Having said that, these lists will contain not only positive qualities
but some negative ones as well.
The letter for this month is:
Hope on over to Patti's blog to read more!
So, whatever way you choose to record your book of you let me know. If you are interested in following along with this challenge then be sure to check back here around the 15th {give or take} of each month for each update.
I shall be playing along with this too, mine will be partially here and mostly in a book because I plan to be as candid as I can on a variety of things that just wouldn't sit right out in public! Secrets? Yep, and thats ok, we all have them, and if we dont then we aren't really living!! :)
Are you coming to play? How will you leave your story behind? What kind of things do you want your children to know about you? Will you be brave enough to tell them the deep dark secrets too?
