I've had some great fun the last few days with my kids, not sure if I fell outta bed and banged my head or something but just being together has bought on a lil meaning of its own....fun! Yeah, that said f.u.n, not a typo, i'm not delusional and yes k.i.d.s and f.u.n are in the same sentence there! Weird eh? :)
In one or another we have just kinda hung out together, we've made some lil ornaments for the tree after I declared that its time we made some more for our tree instead of just buying them. My Christmas tree is my pride and joy, it takes the most part of the day to put up and the rest of the day and probably evening to dress, why? Because I am one of those people that like my tree to be the biggest feature of Christmas, actually no, I tell a lie there, I like it to be THE feature throughout December up to the early January when by then i'm fed up of pulling the dog off it (or the cat back in the day of our lil Sparkles!). With over 12 sets of various lights and approx 100 or so ornaments I love to look at the ones that my kids made over the years, such memories eh? This year its the merciless time of year when I have to sift through the boxes and throw out all the shop bought ones and replace them...with homemade! I'm finding out though that its cheaper to buy them to make them! Though none of the fun is there so i'll take my chances against bankruptcy!! Lol
Wanna see what the kids done so far? Me too, I was kinda good and made a lil stocking, didn't turn out too bad if I do say myself! Kirsten made three pom-poms, a daddy, a mummy and a baby...her words not mine! Charley's little star is just peeping over the stocking there!
Have to just say at this point that as the plan is to make a variety of small decorations, I have hung a pretty multicoloured cord line up going across the length of my dining room, perfect for keeping them all in one place, on show so I know what we made and in what colour and keeps those pegs happy whilst they aren't drying clothes outdoors!! :) Now for a full view of my stocking.
This wasn't all we made either, for the first time ever I had a go at roasted pumpkin seeds! Just the word pumpkin just puts me off wanting to try it so I am surprised I even said yes to this one! So here is the Princess Kirsten doing her stuff...
and this is the end result......
I have to confess that after dubiously tasting one I wondered what all the fuss was about. They are truly DEEEELISHOUS!!! I must confess (again!) that by the time it was bedtime Kirsten and I had polished off the most part of these, I added SOME salt and pepper then Kirsten added THE salt which tasted like half the tub of it! ;) Either way, they were yummy!
Yesterday morning, while we were all a bit sluggish after a rough night with Charley boy being ill, the kids decided to lock themselves away in the dining room and let rip with the paper, inks and photos. Charley drummed away on the piano, both of them were talking and laughing and I got on with some fairy chores. All peace and contentment reigned! :) A couple of hours later, and one friend in tow (Lil Miss Keavy) this poster is what I am presented with...only thing missing is a photo of #1 son Jay who we suspect has taken all the printed photos of himself and hidden them! On there I am told that I am:
- Mum of the Year
- Beautiful
- Role Model
- Best Friend
- Super Mum
In return my kids now expect a cash payment!! LOL No, seriously, I was so warmly surprised when I received this, Kirsten had a happy contented look on her face whilst Charley was dancing round my feet just itching for me to 'see it'! Now it has pride of place in what has become my extended gallery area...my hallway, and who cares if it doesn't fit in with yellow walls or a so called respectable greeting place? Not me, its the best area (with loadsa wall space) to show off their artwork and masterpieces! Besides which, it's not often I get something like this, its usually for the Dads!! ;)
Conversation with Charley boy earlier, as I mentioned he is ill at the moment with what seems to be another chest infection and i'm pretty sure his ears are bunged up too so this chuckled me for ages:
Charley: I got that (pointing to the kids toy commercial on tv)
Me: Yep
Charley: Can I have that on my Santa List?
Me: Yep
Charley: I want that too
Me: uh huh (can you tell I was doing something other than listening??!!)
Charley: I got that, mine is Thomas (Aqua Draw train thing) does Kirsten have that one? (Princess Aqua Draw or something like that)
Me: No she's a bit old for it
Charley: Oh ok
Pause
Charley: I got that
Me: uh huh
Charley: Noooo! I haven't, silly me!
Me: Hehe silly numpty
Charley: I dont wanna be naughty
Me: I said numpty
Charley: I dont wanna be him!
Me: choked on my drink!!!
Sometimes you really gotta be there to get the gist of his humour or intelligence, this one was probably one of those times but all the same its staying here and its still making me giggle!!
Picking him up from the nursery earlier as we got into the car this is the conversation we had:
Me: Have you plugged in your seat belt yet?
Charley: Not yet, I cant do it
I turned to ask Kirsten if she would reach to plug him in but he insisted he could do it. A few minutes later
Me: Are you done yet mate?
Charley: Nearly
Me: Want some help?
Click. Done
Me: Good boy mate, your a big boy.
Charley: I dont want to be a big boy, I want to be Charley!
It's all in the small innocent things that kids say eh? :)
Well, pumpkins are as good as ready, though they need a bit of tweeking after I erm, cut the nose into the left eye on Kirstens so I have to find a way of operating before I will show it on the www!! Lol Not made much of an effort for Halloween this year as we are going away tomorrow afternoon for the weekend back up to the midlands. My cousin, Shaz turned 40 last week and tomorrow is a big surprise party for her, she's going to go nuts though cos she made a deal about not wanting one! Lol Her oldest son, Scott has organised it all, though right now he has everyone on hot coals with his seeming lack of organisation...his answer to everything is 'its on my to-do list' and trust me, as thorough as he is as an apprentice teacher not even HE could make this happen when he's been away in New York for the last week!! So goodness knows what's going to happen! The upshot is, they are all dressing up for a Halloween party, but Daz and the boys will get changed once they have Shaz in the party and realised its for her...only they aren't taking a change of clothes for her!!! Mean? Oh yeah!! Lol Secretly though, her mum is going to get an outfit for her to change into, even though she has the humour to see the funny side anyways. Looking forward to a potentially great night there and even our Scott might survive the event if he pulls it off!! Lol
So Halloween has been relatively easy for us this year, no trick or treaters for me (unless they come tonight and they'd really catch me out!!) and for once I have a perfectly good reason for my kids not going either!! Smiles all round i'd say :)
Enough from me for now, still gotta get ready for the Usborne Book event I have in the morning and finish tidying the house before we go.
Here's a good site if anyone is looking.
Happy Halloween
